One of the cool perks of joining AmpMe is that we send you on vacation before you start your first day!
Marie-France started with us a few months ago, coming from Cirque du Soleil, and has the role of people & culture specialist. We did a short Q&A with her after her trip, and here’s what she had to say.
Can you introduce yourself? What’s your role at AmpMe?
Hi! I’m Marie-France, my role at AmpMe is to take care of our awesome people and make sure work is a happy place for everyone. I’m also in charge of recruiting new rockstars to join our crazy team and help us make AmpMe even better 🙂 (Check out our career page!)
How did you hear about AmpMe?
I’ve been curious about the Montreal startup scene for a while but I first heard about AmpMe through Martin-Luc’s social medias. When I got the word they were looking for a People Ops person, I saw it as a great opportunity!
Why did you decide to join?
AmpMe’s mission to bring people together through music and make it accessible to anyone, anywhere really appealed to me. Our product influences people’s live in such a positive way; I wanted to be part of the journey.
What do you think about the vacation bonus you got for joining the company?
It was alright —kidding, It’s the 💣!!! After a whole week, feet in the sand, I was full of energy and ready to embark on this adventure. I think it’s a great way to get people onboard and give them a WOW moment when they first join. (Ok, it does makes my job easier ;))
Which destination did you pick for your trip, and why?
I chose Playa del Carmen. It’s known for its beautiful beaches, relaxed vibe but yet great nightlife; which was exactly what I was looking for.
Describe some of the highlights of your trip (including the people you were with/people that you might have met that you found memorable)?
Two words —nachos & guacamole! #guacamolefordaysss
But also, the beautiful beaches of Playa del Carmen.
On the first day, my sister and I took some time to explore the city and shop around a little bit. Later during the week, we were lucky enough to go cenote diving. During the day, we would relax, enjoy the beach and play volleyball. Then at night, we took part in the city’s vibrant nightlife. One evening, we even went to see a circus show! I’ll definitely be keeping great memories from this trip 😃 (Tequila tasting however was not a highlight 🙈)
Were you able to start an AmpMe party during your travels?
Yes, quite a few even!!! (It’s a great way to meet new people ;)). I introduced the app to a large group of Canadians on the beach. They were listening to music with just a tiny bluetooth speaker and couldn’t quite hear well. When I showed them the app, they were amazed to see how easy it was to sync all the devices together, including the speaker! They launched AmpMe parties all week and —fun times 🙂
Muchas gracias por las vacaciones AmpMe ;)!
Looking for to work for a startup that’s changing how people connect through music around the world? We’re hiring!
Now that we heard all about her amazing trip, it’s time to dig further!
Favourite music genre?
For me, this is like asking a parent who their favorite child is! I enjoy all kinds but generally speaking, I listen to house music more often because that’s what I listen to when I workout.
Favourite music artist?
I would say Ludovico Einaudi (sorry, Chris Martin!). Everything he touches is gold.
Favourite song right now?
Wait (Kygo Remix) by M83. I’ve had this song on my iPod forever and I still listen to it on repeat!
Crosswords…! I could do crosswords for hours on end. I secretly love bringing my car to the garage just because they have piles of old magazines with crosswords sections 😂
Where are you from?
Latitude: 46°48′44″ N, Longitude: 71°12′52″ W
Don’t believe everything you think! Truth is a matter of perception.
Libra. It’s all about balance, right? …and taking forever to choose between a latte or a cappucino!
What were you like in high school?
The kind of person that spent hours playing Nintendo and got angry when getting stuck on a level. I owe Zelda my perseverance (or stubbornness 😂).
What do you like most about working at AmpMe?
Seeing how AmpMe influences people’s lives in such a positive way & seeing the results of your everyday work. But I must say, what I like the most must be the people —I am lucky enough to be working alongside brilliant, driven & committed individuals.
What is it like working with a bunch of guys?
It’s hilarious!!! The guys are constantly making me laugh… Pretty sure my life expectancy has grown since I’ve started working here. Plus they’re such gentlemen, I cannot complain.
What is it like to work with a Dragon?
It’s inspiring, to say the least! Martin-Luc is a visionary and his passion is contagious. He might not always be at the office but he is always present nonetheless.
We are very lucky to have Marie-France in our team! She brings joy, motivation and awesome new people to the team!
