Extravert, hustler, social butterfly, kind, smiley, prankster, helpful, determined… All of these adjectives describe Ali. Word on the street is, if you haven’t heard about Ali, you ain’t been on the street. Even Kevin Hart, knows Ali. This guy hustles so hard, he don’t even take time to sleep. (Hey, who needs sleep! ? Chuck Norris, sure don’t.) He barely even makes time for lunch. (When he does, Halal only, please. ?) When he’s not busy closing deals with influencers, crunching numbers, managing the Growth team, or standing at his desk (Yes, Ali actually has a standing desk), he’s busy trying to come up with a hobby, that doesn’t involve work. Ask him about his hobbies and he’ll say that he’s still working on it. Come to think of it, he is always working… All Ali does is, “Work, Work, Work…” ? You can actually follow him on Snapchat if you want to know what a day in the life of Ali is…
At the end of the day, having a dedicated teammate like Ali is a true asset to the AmpMe team. When he joined AmpMe, about a year ago, he was all in. And let’s just say that the recruiting process was a little “different” for Ali.
Let him tell you all about it:
About a year ago, on October 12th, I was on a plane to San Francisco. I was off for good; heading into the unknown, ready for a new adventure. You see, I was actually planning to move to New York after my last business was acquired. After 10 years of entrepreneurial hustle in Montreal, I was ready for something new. I was ready for something bigger and better. Sure enough, that very same day, a man sitting next to me on the plane, spontaneously changed the course of things. I guess you could call it fate.
The man next to me was Marty a.k.a Martin-Luc Archambault. Quite frankly, I was a little stunned when I realized who he was, but I definitely knew that I could learn something from him. As we got to talking, he began explaining his latest business venture; an app that could turn your phone into loud speakers so that you could listen to music anywhere, anytime. I was intrigued. I wanted to learn more, so I asked him these 3 precise questions:
- When did you launch AmpMe? 2 Weeks ago.
- How many downloads have you generated up to now? 100 k
- What’s your star rating on the App Store? 4.5
The answers he provided me with, reassured me. He was clearly on to something and I began to think of ways that I could bring value to his awesome product. I’ve always been fascinated by growth and how a company can scale from a small seed round of 5 people, and expand to having a large team and millions in the bank. I thought that this was my time to soar. I knew how valuable working with such an amazing entrepreneur could be and I saw tremendous potential in the opportunities for me to develop professionally. I knew that my skills could be an asset to the team and that I was driven enough to make the dream a reality. (Not to mention, I was all about turning it up and getting an AmpJam started.) Let’s just say that I was all in… By the time the plane landed, I knew that it was the beginning of something pretty awesome! And that’s how my AmpMe journey all began!
Now, let’s get into the nitty gritty of things. What’s it really like to work at AmpMe?
1. What is it like to be VP of Growth at AmpMe?
The toughest/funnest part about working at AmpMe is having the opportunity to do things that have not been done before. Since I’ve graduated with a Major in Marketing, I can say that things change fast in this fast-paced realm. (Like, really fast!) A lot of the work I do is based on core intuition, or as I like to call it, “The Magical Antenna”, and how to day trade attention. The rest of my work consists of testing and tracking results, to make sure we’re on track.
2. What have you learned from working at AmpMe?
Yesterday, today and tomorrow will never be the same. Just make sure that you try your best to learn from yesterday, so that you can crush today and plan for tomorrow. Things move fast here; and it’s tough to make everything perfect, but you can be sure we’re on it.
3. What is the coolest thing about working at AmpMe?
Being able to make viral videos is pretty awesome. It’s amazing to think that we took a few hundred thousand downloads and turned it into millions more. Now, that’s growth! ??
4. What is the toughest thing about working at AmpMe?
When things don’t go the way you planned and you have a lot of money on the table…?
5. What is one of your favorite AmpMe moments or memories?
It’s tough to say because there are lots of great moments, but making it in the USA App Store’s Top 3 charts in the music category, was really memorable. What’s cool is that I know that there’s tons more to come!
6. If you could offer a piece of advice to other entrepreneurs out there, what would it be?
It’s a long road ahead, so speed up and be patient.
As you can see, it’s pretty awesome to have Ali on our team. Since he’s been at AmpMe, it’s clear that he has poured his blood, sweat and tears, into this super startup. Come to think of it, we’re actually pretty blessed that Ali just happened to be sitting next to Martin-Luc on the plane that day. You know what they say… Everything happens for a reason. Everyone on the team agrees; we wouldn’t have it any other way! ?
Wanna know what it’s like to work with a hustler?
“At first, when I met Ali, I didn’t know what a hustler was. Almost 1 year later, I’m still not sure what he does in is day-to-day. But, you only need one minute with him to understand that he is a REAL hustler; by the way he talks, how he interacts with people and most importantly, how he get things done! A+ coworker.” – Michaël Mimeault
“Ali has very strong interpersonal skills. He knows how to speak with people and how to negotiate with them. If you throw Ali in a room full of people for an hour, he’ll walk out knowing every single person. That’s what he does!” – Marc Mercier
“Ali is a real street Gangsta and a real startup guy, when you work with him, you quickly see that he will do ANYTHING to reach his goals. Another cool thing about Ali is that he’s able to talk to everybody about anything as if he were your friend of many years, although it’s only the first time you meet him. Aweille mon Ali continues comme ça! ?” – Keith Beaudoin
“Without a doubt, the office wouldn’t be the same without Ali. It’s rare that I get to work with someone who has such in-depth hip hop culture knowledge, but that can also challenge me on complex business issues. His cultural awareness is second to none, which has been a big part of AmpMe’s success.” – Philippe Delorme
